Belfast School — Feb 26, 2019

At Pūtahi Belfast School there are a number of opportunities for children to become involved in leadership.

Children can become PALS, Peer Mediators, Student Librarians, Prefects, Junior Neighbourhood Support Leaders and more.

Every year we select our Prefects Team for the coming year. The Prefect team; which include Head and Deputy Head Students, take part in a year-long leadership course based around Sean Covey's book “Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens”. The Sports Captains are also included in this.

At the start of each year the Prefects Team take part in a leadership course for 2 days and attend various other events. We pride ourselves on the training that our young people receive, and feedback we have received from one high school is that our children are known for their leadership and automatically step into leadership roles when they start. For further information around leadership at Belfast School please see Sarah Cooper.

Our PALS, Physical Activity Leaders encourage and create some exciting activities for their peers to engage in at break times.

Our Student Librarians are trained by our lovely Librarian Carol and support their class by being in charge of issuing out books and putting away returns. This requires organisation and trust with our students.

Elissa from JNS selects a couple of students to lead this within the school- making positive community decisions that have an impact on the community. We also have a group of 8-10 who are part of the team.
