Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the ODT Class Act Awards. Jordyn Martin and Chloe Robertson were presented with their well-deserved awards by the Prime Minister. Click here and you can read not only of the excellent academic achievements of these two young women but also of their incredible involvement in school life.

Congratulations to He Waka Kōtuia who won overall first place at Te Hautoka 2019, held recently in Invercargill. This means that for the third successive time He Waka Kōtuia will take part in the National Kapa Haka Championships. To everyone involved in supporting our young women to achieve this success, my sincere thanks.   He Waka Kōtuia, along with Queen's of the Pacific, are performing in Polyfest next week; a great opportunity to see their performances.

A group of Year 9 and 10 students came home winners from Christchurch last weekend after competing in the ‘Tournament of Minds’. This involved a prepared 10-minute presentation on their chosen category of Language and Literature as well as an impromptu presentation on a topic given on the day. Well done to all involved in this event, as this too involved many hours of preparation leading up to the competition itself.

With only three weeks of this term to go it is important for senior students to be focused on their academic work and what they need to achieve before the holiday break. Many internal assessments are now complete, and each student should have a clear picture of where they are at, in regards to their overall achievement. The practice exams are in one week and in preparation for these, subject teachers will be focusing on the exam topics and passing on valuable exam techniques and tips for each paper within their classes. You can access the exam timetable here.
