Otago University Young Women in Leadership Programme 2020

Lesley Signal-Cambridge —

This programme has been developed by the University of Otago to help young women from schools across the city, who are in Year 12 and who have leadership potential, but do not already have roles and opportunities to develop their confidence and skills in leadership.

For this programme, students need to apply to be selected for one of the 30 places available, and the university was impressed by the calibre of the applications. This year Queen's has had four of our wonderful young women selected to take part in the programme. The goal of the programme is to help young women to understand that there are many forms of leadership, and that leaders do not need to be extroverted go-getters, but they can also be a quiet and collaborative leader. The programme runs across the year and includes two workshops held at the university, along with a small scale, collaborative project designed and undertaken by the girls, working in small groups. We look forward to seeing the outcomes of their work and learning.
