Congratulations to Mereana Martin and Billie Allan, pictured above with the Prime Minister, Jucinda Ardern, after receiving their ODT Class Act Awards yesterday.

This week we welcomed back ‘The Showcase of Dance’ and what a showcase it was. The talents of many Queen’s girls were celebrated and enjoyed by a full Performing Arts Centre as we were treated to aerobics, hip hop, ballet, tap and contemporary dance performances as well as Kapa Haka and Pacific Island performance. Compare, Cai Heperi, kept the evening flowing with her introduction of each performance as well as encouraging some of the audience to participate in activities for prizes.

Last week we had Queen’s compete in three separate South Island Secondary Schools Tournaments: Netball, Basketball and Football. The girls playing, represented both themselves and our school well. Our Football team gained a top 4 finish and with many of our players only in Year 9 and 10, the team is definitely a team to watch for in the future. Winter sport has now finished, and the season ended with many teams, across different codes, in finals playoffs. Well done to all girls who play in these teams and a big thank you to our coaches, managers, and supporters, as without you, the girls would not be able to have these opportunities.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the ODT Class Act Awards. Mereana Martin and Billie Allan were presented with their well-deserved awards by the Prime Minister, Jucinda Ardern. Click here and you can read not only of the excellent academic achievements of these two young women but also of their incredible involvement in school life.

With only three weeks of this term to go it is important for senior students to be focussed on their academic work and what they need to achieve before the holiday break. Many internal assessments are completed, and each student should have a clear picture of where they are at, in regard to their overall achievement. The practice exams are in one week and in preparation for these, subject teachers will be focussing on the exam topics and passing on valuable exam techniques and tips for each paper within their classes. Please see the Senior School Examinations article for further information.

I wish He Waka Kōtuia, Queen’s Aerobics and our Hip Hop crews all the best for their upcoming National competitions.
