Tēnā koutou katoa

Our celebration of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week with our ākonga (students) and kaimahi (staff) this year started with our QHS Māori moment. Tō mātou Wā Tuku Reo Māori. This years theme is ‘Kia kaha te reo Māori - let’s make the Māori language strong’. Over this week our Year 10 class have been running activities for us all to take part in, encouraging us all to speak te reo, ahakoa te iti (no matter how little), me korero (we should speak it).

Patua te whakamā – don’t be afraid to give it a go.

As a follow up to the message that was sent to all families directly connected to the serious cyber issue of the viral video, Netsafe’s expertise and advice is invaluable. This is a great place to start to get information around anything on-line. Click here to go directly to the Netsafe website.

Senior students will be emailed their final report next week. This will look different to their mid-year report as the focus of this report is on their NCEA achievement. There is an opportunity in the first week of next term for you to meet with your daughter’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns. With only five full weeks of classes left for senior students, the focus must now be on their academic work. Students should talk with their teachers about what they should be focusing on and take advantage of the tutorials on offer.

The celebrations of students’ success for 2020 start with the Sport and Cultural Awards night on Tuesday 20th October followed by the Senior Academic Prizegiving on Tuesday 10th November. Both of these events are being held in the Queen’s and King’s Performing Arts Centre. Junior prizegiving will be in the Queen’s hall, on the morning of Wednesday 9th December.

I would like to wish the Queen's 10's Rugby team good luck in the U15 final against South Otago High School on Tuesday in Balclutha.  I would also like to congratulate the girls who have performed so well in Netball and Basketball over the past weeks.

We await Monday’s announcement on Alert Levels and after that we will make any decisions relating to any upcoming events. We are hopeful that the school formal will take place next weekend as planned. Any changes will be communicated to students and whānau as quickly as possible. I thank you for your patience and understanding over this uncertain time.
