Students’ Success

Gymnastics

Hannah Pearce represented New Zealand at Level 8 Gymnastics in Hawaii in early January. She participated in all four apparatus events in two competitions, being Gymnastics in Paradise and the Aloha Gymnastics Festival. Hannah placed in the top seven in all events, with a second place on Vault. Her team, comprising of eight gymnasts from throughout the country, was the overall winner of their level at the Gymnastics in Paradise event. Hannah said it was an incredible experience representing her country. Her days were action-packed; when she wasn’t training or competing, she enjoyed the sights of Hawaii. Congratulations Hannah on your amazing individual and team achievement.

Athletics

Announcing Jorja Gibbons’ selection in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Association Team to compete in Brisbane, Queensland in mid-April. Jorja competed in two events in January, achieving second place in the Open Women 100 metres, third in the Open Women 200 metres, and fourth in the Long Jump in Timaru. You are an inspiration Jorja; keep working hard to achieve your athletics goals.

Rowing

Our Queen’s rowers ‘hit the water rowing’ in January. The girls were fortunate enough to have a training camp in Arrowtown, thanks to Dave Hanan, Coach. A few days training in paradise, with great progress made on the lake. Last weekend the girls competed at the South Island Club Championships in Twizel. They made three A finals, along with a Personal Best being achieved in one event. Great start to the season Ella, Ella, Billie, and Adi.

Basketball

Queen’s High School wishes Elise Carline all the best for her New Zealand Under 17 Basketball trial being held in Rangiora on Saturday 11 February.

Figure Skating

On Monday, Jazz Evangelou is departing for Colorado Springs, USA, to attend an international training camp. She was one of two New Zealand Figure Skaters selected to be offered this opportunity. We trust she will enjoy this wonderful experience and extend her expertise on the ice.
