Dear Runners: Please stop apologising for being ‘slow’. Remember you are lapping everyone on the couch.

Students’ Success

Challenge Wanaka Secondary Schools Triathlon

Eight of our students competed in the recently held Challenge Wanaka Secondary Schools and the Otago Triathlon Championships. For many of the girls, this was their first major Triathlon at this level. We had a combination of students competing individually and in teams, who all performed admirably. A special mention to Eve Kelleher who was third in the Challenge Wanaka event and placed first in the Otago Secondary Schools event. A fantastic effort.

Athletics

Jorja Gibbons raced in the International Track Meet in Christchurch last weekend. She set personal best times and an Otago record in the 100 metres (12.19s) and 200 metres (24.88s). In Jorja's 200 metre race, the winner broke the New Zealand record. Mighty effort, Jorja.

Rugby League

Queen's High School students, combined with students from two other secondary schools to play in a Rugby League 9s tournament last Sunday. On the field, players showed a high level of skill on attack and no fear in the tackle, both hitting it up and taking the opposition down. After strong pool matches, the team narrowly lost the final.

Congratulations and good luck to the following Queen's students who were selected to represent Otago Rugby League Representative Teams:

Otago Under 16

Rhianah Knopp and Nina Rakete

Non-Travelling Reserves

Aria McFelin and Kiana Tatana

Otago Under 18

Tennis

Representing the Otago Under 14 Team in the Southern Teams Tennis Event last weekend were Molly Stumbles and Renee Geddes. The team played Southland, Southern Lakes, and South Canterbury. Well done to both girls for representing their region in another sport.
