We started the year with a trip to the Physiology Department at the University of Otago, where we investigated how the human body responds to exercise.

Our experimental subjects had sticky gel electrodes attached to their skin so we could collect ECG (electrocardiogram) data. We also used thermometers to estimate both core and surface temperatures, to investigate how the body manages thermal regulation during exercise. It was a fun morning, and a great chance to investigate homeostasis in a practical way. Thanks to all of our keen volunteers for being willing to be the experimental subjects!
