Summer Sport

Not too much to report on the ‘sporting scene’ in this edition of Queen’s News. Most summer sport will commence competition next week, which is encouraging given the present Covid situation.

Otago Cricket has changed the format for cricket in Term 4.  A development league is being introduced, where students will participate in a skills session each Wednesday and then play a short game. This concept should work well for newcomers to the sport and more experienced players.

Otago Water Polo has also introduced a new combined schools A Grade Team to extend students’ whose school team doesn’t play in this division. Mereana Martin and Samantha Gray have been selected in this team, so they will now enjoy playing two games on a Thursday this term.

Touch trials were held on Wednesday this week. A Junior Year 9/10 Team will represent the school in the A Grade, along with two junior teams competing in the B Grade.

Futsal also gets underway next week, as does Handball, a sport’s competition we have entered a team in for the first time. The students had a training session this week, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Return of Sports Uniforms

There are still a few winter sports uniforms to be returned; specifically rugby uniforms. These need to be returned immediately please.
