Victoria University / Te Herenga Waka Open Day
Over the past weekend I went to the Open Day for Te Herenga Waka / Victoria University, in Wellington.
During the open day we had a look around the law and business school known as Pipitea Campus which is right next to the Parliament buildings, the District Court, High Court, and the Supreme Court - which I thought was really cool.
Everyone was really nice and welcoming and they were able to answer any questions I had. After having a look around the Pipitea Campus we went to a law lecture; during the lecture they told us a lot about the type of jobs people have gone on to do after law school, such as becoming a lawyer but also a journalist, working in Corrections, in the Arts, and many other things outside of being a lawyer. We also learnt that lots of law students who study at Vic. gain jobs in Parliament in assistant positions. They also have discussion based lectures where sometimes people from Parliament might come into a lecture.
We then went to the Kelburn Campus which was amazing, it had lots of food for the students, great places to study, and lots of stalls to have a look around. The University also has free healthcare for students as well as many other free support systems for students. Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University is an amazing university; I really enjoyed my time there and learnt lots of things during my small time spent visiting.
