Emma- Rose Hollander - Dance Associate —

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday and have enjoyed their first week back at school. Last term we had students participating in a variety of dance events representing Queen’s and community dance in Dunedin.

To start off, the Hip Hop Crews for 2021 were announced with two small crews ‘Audacity’ coached by Queen's students Martha McAuley, Lucy Grant and Tiara Nafatali and ‘Royalty’ coached by Izzy Brown and Safera Wintrup. We also have one mini crew, Gracie Ruri and Izzy Brown. All crews have begun their after school training and are looking forward to performing at Regionals in August.

As well as coaching ‘Audacity’, Martha and Lucy two of Queen’s Year 11 students performed as a duo ‘Custom Made’ in the Fringe Festival back in March, where they performed in the Ōtepoti Hip Hop Hustle winning the best overall act alongside their fellow dancers from Rasa School of Dance. Lucy and Martha also performed with Rasa’s top crew ‘Allies’ this Wednesday night as the opening act for The Royal Family Dance Crew on their New Zealand Tour.

On the 27th March Queen’s students performed at the South Dunedin Street Festival. Tiana Elisara performed a traditional Siva Samoa, Nicole Asuncion performed Hip Hop Freestyle and He Waka Kotuia also performed a short set.

This term we have the Queens’ Mini Crew Competition coming up in Week 9! If anyone is interested in showing off their cool moves then get a group of two to four friends together and come up with a 1:15 - 1:30 minute routine and be in to win some cool prizes as well as the title of being the 2021 Mini Crew Competition Winners.

Keep Dancing!
