Welcome back! Each month I write a report for our school’s Board of Trustees. This report includes information about student achievement and attendance information, the progress we have made towards our annual goals, health and safety information, policy changes and more. Over the lock down period, I looked at a number of the tasks that I do regularly, like the Board of Trustees report, and made changes that will improve the information that is provided. From now on, I will start my Board report with ‘Highlights from my diary’. This month there is only one item – school reopening for all.

Having all staff and students back on site on Monday morning made school feel like a school again. The buzz was back, with all of us excited to see each other and to be able to have those face-to-face conversations. As I have walked around the school this week, the classrooms are back to their usual hive of activity. Everyone happy to be back and definitely happy to be with their friends.

Many events have been cancelled due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19. With the restrictions around gatherings likely to be in place for some time I can't see a time in the near future to reschedule the events that we postponed. One such event was the Board of Trustees Young Scholar Award evening. This is where students who gained a grade point average of 80% or more in their NCEA level for that year, are awarded a Young Scholars Badge. Today in our senior assembly the Level 1 recipients for 2019 were awarded their badge (see photo above).  Next week the Level 2 Young Scholar Awards will be presented. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I congratulate the students who achieved this award.

Today I have shared with the students that co-curricular activities that are held on site will begin to restart from the week of the 1st June. That they need to look out for information on the noticeboard or on the daily newsletter for the co-curricular activities they are or they want to be involved in.

Next week I ask that all students are off site by 4pm.
