Sports Funding Availabilty
At Queen’s, we understand that times can be financially challenging, particularly for whānau who have children participating in extracurricular activities. We have a variety of options available for students who are playing sports at all levels, and we encourage families to apply for help where necessary. Not all funding options below are guaranteed, however, we encourage families to apply.
Sporting Chance
Sporting Chance is a programme through Sport Otago that provides financial assistance to children from disadvantaged circumstances to help them take part in sport. It funds participation and will assist with the basic costs of playing a sport. Sporting Chance makes grants for the costs of:
Fees. You can apply for the cost of club or schools fees for playing sport. There are some exceptions - see below - so be sure to apply for the right costs to increase your chances of getting a grant.
Sporting footwear. You can apply for the cost of sporting footwear such as football boots, court shoes or running shoes.
To be eligible for a grant, a student must be:
Regularly attending school in Otago, and be between Years 1 and 13.
Participating in an ongoing sporting commitment, which could be a season or a year depending on the sport.
Have genuine financial need as determined by the referring body.
If you are interested in accessing this fund for your child, please contact Tessa at sport@queens.school.nz. Please note, Sporting Chance only covers the current school term’s fees, and cannot be used on outstanding fees from previous terms. Sporting Chance is available all year round.
Apollo Projects
Queen’s High School is excited to announce that we have partnered with Apollo Projects. This partnership is to provide more students with the opportunity to participate in sports by making funding more accessible. The Apollo Projects funding would help students pay for fees, tournament costs, equipment such as boots and shin pads, travel and other sporting costs.
To be eligible to access the Apollo Projects funding, students must meet the following criteria:
The funding goes to students who would otherwise miss out. There is a demonstrable need (e.g. disadvantaged circumstances) or financial barrier to participation in sport.
The individual shows positive interest, ability or potential in their sport.
Funding would assist in potentially providing a better long-term outcome for that student in sport and life.
To access the Apollo Projects funding, we ask that students and their parents/caregivers/whānau please fill out the following form by clicking HERE. Students can apply for up to $500 per annum. There is a limited amount of funding available and will be distributed via a selection panel.
