Fashion and Textiles Technology being supported by a local manufacturer

Lesley Signal-Cambridge —

Christchurch based outdoor and adventure clothing manufacturing company Earth, Sea, Sky has a sewing room/ factory in Dunedin, in which they manufacture a range of outdoor and fashion clothing.

As a company they have made the decision to maintain a minimum waste approach, with the result that they are no longer disposing of any of the cutting table off-cuts that were traditionally regarded as waste. Queen’s High School has benefited from this, and we were recently delivered a wonderful supply of large pieces of off-cut fabrics which can be used by students in Fashion and Textile Technology classes.

In one class, the girls are using the fabric off-cuts to mix with their denim recycling item project to create teddy bears, bags and cushions.

We are excited about the opportunities the provision of these fabrics has provided for our students, while Earth, Sea, Sky are “delighted to see the many creative uses the fabrics are being put to”.

Thanks, Jane Ellis and
