Congratulations to Shaza Ziwani, originally from Syria, and Jamileh Eidizadeh, originally from Afghanistan who were awarded scholarships for the Pathways Programme at Otago University. Both girls are focusing on Science subjects with a view to studying Health Science in 2023.

In her English Language class, Jamileh wrote about her journey to New Zealand and this has been recently published in a magazine called Biograview. Her story provides an insight into what it is like to be forced to leave one’s home and move somewhere completely foreign.

“It was the last month of winter when I came home from school; I was running towards our house while it was raining on me. I remember the sound of the rain, and the smell of the rain-soaked soil; it was as if the earth and the sky were informing me about my new life.”
