Summer Sports are here! Registrations for summer sports are now closed. Trials have taken place for futsal and volleyball this week, while touch rugby has been postponed to next Tuesday the 13 of February at Tonga Park. Junior trials are from 3:15pm-4:30pm, with seniors from 4:30pm-5:45pm.
Team information will be made available ASAP, so please keep an eye out for team lists in your emails. Draws will also be made available each week online, as well as on the sports board at school outside the sports office. Senior volleyball players please keep your eyes peeled for team information, as games start this Monday the 12 February. We understand this is a tight turnover, so if you have any questions please speak with the Director of Sport.
Junior volleyball, futsal, water polo, petanque and softball leagues will also be starting next week, please keep an eye out for updates on team selections and draws.
Please do not pay any summer sport fees until your child is officially in a team.
Parent Support
We are still on the hunt for some awesome parent coaches and managers for our summer sports teams. If you are interested in coaching or managing a team, please contact Tessa at sport@queens.school.nz. We are looking for coaches and managers at all levels for cricket, volleyball, futsal and touch.
Athletics
A very big congratulations to Jorja Gibbons in her selection into the U20 New Zealand relay team. Jorja and the team are currently working hard to qualify for the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru in August. All the very best for your training Jorja!
Brooke Wilson attended the South Island Colgate Games. She entered in four athletics events and placed 1st in relay, 2nd in hurdles, 7th in long jump and was a 200m finalist. Well done on your efforts Brooke, you’ve obtained some excellent results!
Netball
Congratulation to Nadia Te Kanawa who has been named in the Te Wai Pounamu Māori Netball U17 team to play in the National Tournament in Rotorua over Easter weekend. Go well Nadia!
Rugby League
Congratulations to the many past and present students who have been selected in the 18s Otago Rugby League 9's Team. Go well at the upcoming tournament.
Softball
Congratulations to Kadince Robinson in year 13 who has been selected into the Southern Pride Women’s team. The Southern Pride will be competing in Auckland from Wednesday to Sunday next week. Kadince has been involved in an array of regional teams competing in national tournaments over the summer. She has represented Otago in the U17s team, the Southland U19 team, as well as playing in the senior women’s Otago softball team who won their competition overall! Fantastic effort Kadince, well done.
Surf Life Saving
All the best to Sylvie Haig this weekend who is competing in the U14 category in the Southern Region Junior Championship. Sylvie will be representing the Brighton Surf Club where she will be competing in Christchurch. All the best Sylvie! in this Teams Event.
Touch
Ella Smale has recently represented Otago in the U16 national competition in Auckland. Well done to Ella and the team for achieving 6th place!
