Queen's Girls of the 1950's

Bridget Pearce —

On Friday 28 November 2025 the school was a buzz as 70 ex-students from the 1950’s filled the library for a High Tea celebration. The Ex Girls-committee wanted to pay tribute to the amazing foundation that was laid for Queen’s when the girls of the 1950’s attended Queen’s. (The co-hort from 1955 – 1959) plus a few who started Queen’s in 1960 in the 4th form, so went through school with the girls of 1959.

Our current Year 10 students (4th Form back then) took the opportunity to take our visitors on a tour of the school, and I hear that they were quite shocked at some of the things the ex-girls told them they got up to!!! An extensive display of class photos and miscellaneous memorabilia from their era was on display. This generated lots of laughs and refreshed memories.

The normally very quiet spaces in the library were effervescent with catching up,

reminiscing and hilarity from these wonderful ex-girls.

Some great photos were taken by Jo Bishop-Cherry, who is Head of Social Sciences at Queen’s.

Thank you for attending – the school is VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL. Enjoy the

photos!
