Sports Corner
“Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goals; my strength lies solely in my tenacity.” Louis Pasteur.
Welcome to edition one of the Sports Corner for 2022. Here’s to continuing on from the success Queen’s High School had in the sporting arena last year.
The school Athletics Day, which was to have been held next Wednesday at the Caledonian Ground has unfortunately been cancelled due to Covid restrictions. We hope to reschedule the day in the near future.
Students, parents and caregivers have received email correspondence this week regarding signing up to play summer sport. Please read this information carefully. Tuesday 8 February is the deadline for submitting registrations. Students are also required to complete a Sports Code of Conduct Contract, which is to be signed by themselves and a parent/caregiver and returned to the Sports Office.
Rowing
The Queen’s rowing students have had a busy summer on the water training and competing, with some great results in the Canterbury Championships and the South Island Championships. Dave Hanan, the coach, highlighted the significant improvement from the rowers, decreasing their time by 20 seconds from one regatta to the next. Preparation is well underway for the New Zealand Club Championships. Keep up the dedication and hard work Ella Edwards, Ella Nesbit, Billie Askerud, and Adi Davies.
Student Accomplishments
Elise Carline was recently selected in the Dunedin Year 9/10 Girls Cricket team to compete against two Canterbury Metro teams and a Canterbury Country team in Christchurch. The Dunedin team defeated two of the three teams. Elise has also been invited to attend the Mainland Eagles Basketball Induction Camp in Canterbury this weekend and has been nominated by Basketball Otago to take part in the upcoming Basketball New Zealand U17 Regional Selection Trials the following weekend in South Canterbury. All the best Elise.
Individual Sporting Achievements
I would like to be made aware of any individual sporting achievements outside school. Students or parents/caregivers can either email me or students are welcome to come to the Sports Office and share the information. Students will be acknowledged in the Queen’s News.
