The operational changes to NCEA that have been announced by the Minister of Education this week have provided some relief to the concerns that students have over completing their qualification this year. These changes mean that students are rewarded for credits gained, up to a limit of 10 credits at Level 1 and 8 credits at Level 2 or 3. Students need to continue to meet and complete all deadlines and assessments to benefit from these changes.

Co-curricular activities are all beginning again. Much of the information around these activities is posted through the daily notices which you can read on the Queen’s website. Click here to take a look.

Pictured above are the Level 2 Young Scholar Awardees for 2019. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, congratulations to these students.

Today, our Year 12 students have had the opportunity to take part in the Loves-me-Not Programme; a one-day workshop which is run by the New Zealand Police. This is a ‘whole-school approach’ to prevent abusive behaviour in relationships. It is based on a student inquiry learning process, where students take action (personal action, effective bystander action and community action) to prevent harm from relationship abuse. This programme is part of our school wide plan in giving students both information and the opportunity to learn about and discuss issues that are relevant to them.

For our Year 10 students there is an upcoming workshop titled ‘Self-defence’. This workshop covers basic physical and verbal techniques for keeping themselves safe. The girls will learn to think and act confidently, to be more aware of their safety, how to be safe on-line and to seek support if needed.

As always, you are welcome to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
