Enviro Group Hui

Matthew Sherborne —

Queen's Enviro group had a productive and educational day on Quarantine Island recently learning about sustainability. Students were involved in potting seedlings, helping establish ground cover and sorting plastic marine waste for a national survey.

The day involved an exciting boat crossing from Port Chalmers involving white squalls and gale force southerly winds. Once on the island the students enjoyed learning about the history of the island as well as a guided walking tour that looked at the regenerating native bush and conservation efforts made by volunteers. Students were also able to share their environmental ideas for school projects and plan actions that they could bring back to their respective schools. A big thanks to Enviro Schools and Jennie Upton for running an informative and unique day for the students.
