Noeline Burden —

Each September a team of Year 9 & 10 students is invited to participate in a multisport challenge, which is run nationwide.

Because of Covid restrictions, this year all teams did not meet at a specific venue for the days’ instructions. We knew beforehand that kayaking at Macandrew Bay was where our team’s day was to begin. In pairs, six of our seven participants completed as many laps of the course as possible. They did this without going off course or losing anyone overboard and only 3 laps fewer than the final overall winning team. Then onto mountain biking behind LPHS we went. To earn bonus points there was a see-saw which could be ridden over each lap. Our girls hardly hesitated! Even taking out the course cones at one sharp bend did not stop their determination to complete laps as quickly as possible. This event saw them earn one less point than the top co-ed team which progresses to nationals at Great Barrier Island. Orienteering at Forrester Park proved the most challenging event for our team and their ranking dropped but not the smile from their faces. WELL DONE girls.
