Sports Corner
Winter sports are just around the corner, with many of our teams starting their first round of games next week. We also have our school Cross Country on Tuesday 7 May; make sure you check out the separate article in Queen’s News for more information.
A huge thank you to the parents, caregivers, students and community members who are giving their time to support, coach or manage one of our many teams. We have almost 300 students registered to play sports this term, and we are excited to get the ball rolling with training sessions and games. It would not be possible to operate at this capacity without the support of our school community, so a big thank you to those who are giving their time back to support Queen’s High School.
Please ensure that your child is checking the notices, Google Classrooms and their emails for any updates regarding games, training sessions and meetings. If you are looking for more information, contact your child’s Teacher in Charge.
Now that your child has made a commitment to their chosen winter sport, please ensure they are available and committed to their team, training and game times. Sport is an extracurricular activity and it is a privilege to be able to participate in sport. It is up to your child to ensure that all commitments and expectations are met.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Tessa at sport@queens.school.nz.

Jorja has had an outstanding season and will no doubt continue to train hard over the winter months. Well done on a successful season, Jorja!
Basketball
Basketball extraordinaire Elise Carline has returned from her time in the United States after travelling to Los Angeles as part of the Steven Adams Camp. She was one of 10 girls selected for this opportunity, and is coming away from the experience extremely grateful for the opportunity to learn from some of New Zealand’s most elite coaches.
During her time in Los Angeles, Elise played in two age group tournaments, winning every game but two. Elise was able to explore the University of Southern California, Long Beach University and University of Concordia, as well as having the opportunity to train at the Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks.
Elise is in Auckland on Friday morning for the Under 18 New Zealand trial for the Junior Tall Ferns. If Elise is selected, she will travel with the Junior Tall Ferns to China to compete in the Asia Championships in June.

Netball
A note from Sandra Lyall, Queen’s Netball Teacher in Charge:
“I am very excited to be a part of the netball family for 2024. We have 17 teams registered with Dunedin Netball, with 6 senior teams and 11 junior teams which is our Year 9 and 10 students. We are extremely lucky at Queen’s that we have so many of our girls stepping up and coaching the teams and awesome parents who have offered their services in the way of coaching and managing. Thank you all for your offers. We also have girls who are helping out in the community, working with Primary and Intermediate schools coaching and umpiring.
Netball starts on the 11 May and I'm looking forward to watching you all over the season.
The Netball 2024 document has been sent out to all students and parents to read. Students will be alerted of their training days shortly. If there are any clashes in schedules, please let Sandra know as soon as possible sandral@queens.school.nz
