To Infinity and Beyond

Mila Tarasiewicz and Maia Scott (Year 9) —

A few weeks ago a small number of students from Queen's High School who expressed an interest in Maths and Science attended a formal talk by Dr Shannon Walker at the Otago Museum.

She talked to us about her experiences in space. Dr Shannon Walker and her crew had to do lots of exercise so that when they returned to Earth their bodies would still be strong. They had to take food that wasn’t crumbly so it wouldn’t go all over the base. The crew had a little bubble window that they could look out at the view from and she showed us some really pretty photos of the sunsets, sunrises and you could even see the atmosphere. After she finished talking we got to ask her some questions about life in space that she answered for us. We were very lucky to be able to listen to Dr Walker talk and it was a very informative and interesting trip.
