Principal's Reflections
He kōtuinga mahi iti, he hua pai-ā-rau – Small ripples create big waves.
Kia ora koutou katoa
We are now officially half way through the second term of our academic year at Queen's. One of the most important things your child can do to reach the goal of success is also one of the most basic: attend school every day and on time!
Research has shown that your child's regular attendance may be the greatest factor influencing their academic success. Alongside achievement, two other important benefits are opportunities and belonging. Opportunities and exposure to activities and learning that add to your child's personal growth are not missed, just by being present at school. Your child is also learning how to contribute, learning valuable social skills and developing a broader world view by being part of the Queen’s community. There is no safe number of days for missing school. Every Day Counts! We need your support in ensuring your child gets to school every day and on time, unless she is unwell.
This time last week, Mrs Kris White, Mrs Amanda Slade and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend the annual TOA scholarships. Congratulations to Helylani (Lani) Luafitu, Miliame (Mili) Tudreu and Theleielizabeth (Liz) Amaramo Taumaoe who all received Pacific Trust Otago TOA scholarships. As a school, we are very proud of your achievement. Well done!
On Friday 19 May, Queen's along with many in New Zealand became a sea of pink for the annual Pink Shirt Day. By taking part, we as a school, are trying to help stamp out bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion. As a kura we ask for a gold coin donation and the money we raise goes to mental health agencies for teenagers. Thank you to everyone who so enthusiastically took part.
At Assembly today, Shona MacGibbon from the Otago Croquet Association presented Ella Smale and Brooke Wilson with a new trophy for the Otago Secondary Schools Golf Croquet Doubles Tournament. Well done on your achievement.
On behalf of Queen's I wish Abby Newell, Micaela Sumner, Annabell Ludgate, Lucy Carrington, Georgia and Brooke Wilson all the best for the NZ Open Aerobics Championships being held at Taieri College this weekend. Good luck to Isla Ludgate who is travelling to Auckland to take part in a rhythmic gymnastics competition which also includes the NZ secondary schools champs. Go well rangatahi!
I wish everyone, students, staff and whānau a great weekend.
Ngā mihi
