Sports round up

Karen Palmer —

We are pleased with the enthusiasm the girls have started their sporting year with

In Futsal 4 teams are playing in the weekly futsal competition after school on Thursdays. They got off to a very good start on the 21st and play right through until April 11th. It is great to have seniors Charlotte Williams and Lily Stedman coaching the Year 9 & 10 teams. Players of the Day for week 1 were Devon Crosland, Caitlyn Petrie, Kimberley Wiparata and Grace Corbett.

At this time, we remind players and supporters of the importance of positive playing and sideline behaviours. Remember sport is about valuing the opposing team’s efforts and making sure everyone enjoys the game. Here are some tips to remind us all of how to show Respect in sport:

10 Tips for a Positive Sporting Experience:

1. Respect the officials’ decisions; be a good sport!

2. Show your love of sport by applauding all competitors and opponents.

3. Provide positive, supportive, and motivating comments; sport is fun!

4. Be thankful to the coaches, umpires, and officials who give up their time to help sport.

5. Appreciate all levels of sport engagement, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or ability.

6. Remember that the game can be very different to take part in, compared with viewing it.

7. Do not curse, use derogatory language, show anger or aggression, or be excessively negative.

8. Be well-mannered in post event functions and when speaking with stakeholders.

9. Do not criticise, ridicule, or put pressure on players, the team, officials, or spectators.

10. Do not drink alcohol in any sport environment. Keep our sports venues smoke-free.
