Careers

Lesley Signal-Cambridge —

There are many opportunities for Queen's students to be involved in career development opportunities. Here is an example of one.

Otago Secondary Tertiary College

Year 12 student Olivia Shepherd spent each Friday in 2018 (and some Monday’s) at the Otago Polytechnic working towards a Level 3 Cookery Certificate. She enjoyed working with students from other schools and making new friends. Olivia had the opportunity to cook for Polytechnic staff and events, and was able to gain a lot of practical experience in commercial kitchens, including work at the Stadium for events such as the Ed Sheeran and Pink concerts. Over the year Olivia gained 60 Level 3 credits in a field she hopes to work in. Olivia says the course helped her to gain more knowledge about the Hospitality Industry, and she would strongly recommend this opportunity to other students. This year three lucky Year 13 students will be taking part in Level 3 Cookery, Sport, Exercise and Health programmes. The OSTC experience is available to students in Years 12 - 13, and is a year long commitment.
