Aerobics

Helen Lowther —

Considering the year that we have had our Aerobics team has found success both regionally and nationally.

We were lucky that the New Zealand Aerobics Federation decided to continue to hold the two main competitions of the year. Otago joined with Southland for the regional competition at ILT Stadium in Invercargill. We maintained social distancing by holding several sessions and having a separate competitor and spectator bubbles. Our national competition was moved from Christchurch to Dunedin due to problems with venues and lockdown.

Like other sports we were hit by Covid-19 so during Lockdown we continued training sessions via Zoom. The coaches choreographed and taught new routines one-on-one to the girls who practised in their backyards and lounges, on tennis courts and rugby fields – anywhere they could find a space.

The girls also joined online group training sessions on a regular basis.
