To mark the International Day of Girls and Women in Science, the Otago Museum hosted a Women in Science Expo. Nineteen Year 12 students with an interest in STEM careers took the opportunity to attend. They got to meet some inspirational women working in many fields of Science and experienced interactive demonstrations of each woman’s area of expertise. Finding out more about how the brain works, tower building (engineering), VR technology and using Chemistry to create a silver-mirrored flask were among the activities enjoyed by this group of students. We also watched a short video about the experiences of some of the women scientists on board a research vessel with a predominantly female crew, and found out more about the challenges and rewards of being a woman in Science.
