We have two weeks of this term to go and if you haven’t already had a conversation recently on how your daughter is progressing, now is the perfect time. Check with her on how her course work is going and that she is up to date with her work. Does she have any assessments due in between now and the end of the term and if so what is her plan to get it all completed and handed in?

The return of activities outside the classroom for students has been a highlight over this last fortnight. Interact, debating, kapa haka, enviro group, language club, choir, hockey, football and netball are just a few that I have been talking to students about.

We are currently writing mid-year reports for all students and I ask you to keep an eye on your emails for this. It will arrive in the last day or two of the term. Included with this will be information about parent teacher interviews which are on Thursday 6 August.

The internet offers many positive experiences for young people as well as many potential risks and dangers which is why it is important that schools and families are mindful of what students are doing online. I encourage you to ask your daughter what apps she has on her devices, what she is watching online, and what she is posting online. Discussing the dangers around certain online behaviours or activities, and talking about safe use of the internet is a way to educate and support your daughter. If you are concerned about any websites, posts or apps then you can immediately report it to the social media site or website it is on, contact the Police or contact Netsafe. This includes instances of online bullying, abuse or harassment. Netsafe’s helpline is free, confidential and open 7 days a week: 0508NETSAFE or email queries@netsafe.org.nz.

I hope you take the time to read the articles that share a wide range of both our in-class and co-curricular activities.
