Secondary Schools' Tournament Week

For the second consecutive year, the Secondary Schools' Tournament Week (this week) was cancelled. This was extremely disappointing for our Senior A Netball and 1st XI Football Team members, especially the students in their final year at school. Organisers faced a difficult decision, but in the Covid era, it is important we all continue to put health and safety first.

Lockdown Activities

Some of our sports teams have participated in physical activity challenges during Alert Level 4. The Senior A Netball Team set each other a challenge. Each member was to run, bike, or do some form of exercise to get their heart rate up. A team member would post a short video and then nominate the next person. The coach led the way by running 4.5 kilometres. The challenge was completed by Ms Hanning, who did some hill walking. It was cool to see the videos of encouragement for each other. The latest challenge set by Jodie and Jade, co-captains, was to make a healthy meal and share it with team members. Nutrition is just as important as fitness; it's important to fuel your body.

Other sports teams have also continued with their fitness goals and had Google Team meets with each other. The 10A and 9A netball teams set fun challenges for one another and teams have had dialogue regarding the highlights of their sport season.

It has just been confirmed that the netball finals that were to be held on Saturday 11 September have been cancelled. We would have had five teams representing the school in finals, what a fantastic effort. We await notification of whether the Premier Basketball Team final will go ahead or not.

Surfing

Ms Civil reported that the waves hadn’t been looking great over the last week, which made not being able to surf easier to deal with! The commencement of Alert Level 3 was also the start of an epic surf forecast for St Clair. Fortunately, surfing was permitted from Wednesday, for experienced surfers at their local break. Ms Civil and students in the Surf Academy were the first to smash those waves!
