Te Iti o Te Owaina

QHS —

Kia ora e te whānau!

Our names are Tallulah Costa and Lilly Edwards, and we are the 2023 Ngā Māreikura Prefects. We are so excited to be part of the Prefect leadership team for 2023, and to support and encourage the Māori girls at Queen's!

To kick off the year, we have decided to start a Mentoring Program across all five year levels, to strengthen the relationships between the senior and junior Māori students at our school. We have named this program Te Iti o Te Owaina. We plan to run weekly sessions in smaller groups, for example we may have a poi session taught by our seniors who are in Kapa Haka, or we may have a fun games session in the gym. At this stage, we are thinking of having these sessions every Thursday lunchtime in Te Owaina, though this may change in the future. We already have so many ideas, and students who are very willing to be a part of this program! We can’t wait to get started with a shared lunch this Friday.

Ngā mihi,

Lilly and Tallulah
