Students’ Success
Australian Athletics Championships
Jorja Gibbons represented New Zealand at the Australian Athletics Championships in Brisbane in the school holidays. She placed fourth in the 4 x 100 metre relay, eighth in the Long Jump, and eleventh in the 100 metres. Amazing results, well done Jorja!
Surfing
Queen's High School surfers have excelled in the Connect Group South Island Grom series for 2022-2023. After four events in Dunedin, Westport, Christchurch, and Kaikoura, our students have emerged as some of the best surfers in the country. In the Under 16 division, Tessa Gabbott was placed first overall, Rewa Morrison was second, and Sari Ayson was fifth. In the Under 18 division, Sari Ayson took the honours, with a well-deserved first place, Rewa Morrison was second equal, and Tessa Gabbott was fourth. Well done to these surfers on their massive achievements this season. It is also great to see Sari involved with coaching some of our younger Year 9 students who are learning to surf.
Touch Rugby
Congratulations to Brooke Wilson, who was the recipient of the Team Player Award for the Under 14 Blue Otago Team this season. Brooke was also a member of our Junior A Touch Team, which came a creditable second in the Girls Junior A Secondary School Grade.
Basketball
Elise Carline made basketball headlines in the Otago Daily Times recently, after delivering in the final seconds on club opening night. She hit two free throws to secure an 82-80 win for the Andy Bay Falcons, to defeat South Pac Magic. Elise scored 15 points, hitting a three-pointer to tie the score at 76-76. We congratulate Elise on her fine start to the club season and her representative basketball honours during the school holidays. Keep up the great work on court Elise.
Ball Girls
Netball South was full of praise in acknowledging our Year 9 and 10 students who were Ball Girls at the Southern Blast and Southern Steel games held at the Edgar Centre last weekend. Results didn't go the Southern Teams’ way, but there were some moments of brilliance on court. Hopefully our promising netballers took some learnings away from the hard fought games.
Sports Fees
A reminder that Term 1 Sports Fees should now have been paid. Any outstanding sports fees must be paid before a student can play a winter sport.
