Kia ora koutou katoa

Our Senior Academic Prizegiving on Tuesday evening was a wonderful celebration of student achievement, contribution and talent. Congratulations to Abby McMullan, the Queen’s High School Dux for 2020, and to Olivia Gray, as Proxime Accessit (runner up to Dux) and Best All-Round Girl. My congratulations to all award winners on their hard work and commitment.

Diane Foster, a student at Queen’s in the 80’s, was our guest speaker. She shared her story with us all, with the key messages that we need to be grateful for all we have, to enjoy every day and to be kind to others but more importantly to be kind to yourself.

Head girl, Sophie Palmer, spoke of her time at Queen’s and thanked all of those who had supported her over the past 5 years. She said that it is important that we look after each other and also shared some of her special memories of her time at Queen’s.

To Amberly Orr and Daisy Kitto-Thomas, our head girl and deputy head girl for 2021. Congratulations on your leadership positions for next year. I am excited about the year ahead and what you will bring to the school in these roles.

I would like to acknowledge this year’s leavers once again for their leadership and contribution to Queen’s.  Your contributions to the life of the school as peer support leaders, house leaders, leaders of cultural groups and sports teams, coaches, interact and council members and much much more have enriched Queen’s for all students.  I know that many of you are sad about what we have missed this year, but what I hope, is that you remember the opportunities, the experiences, the friendships you have had over your time at Queen’s.

As Queen’s girls you are confident, well-rounded, empowered young woman.

Keep in touch with your school friends as the year’s pass; they are like hidden jewels that will always shine when you reopen the box.

I wish all of you the very best of what life has to offer.

Kia hora te marino.
Kia whakapapa pounamu te moana.
Kia tere te karohirohi i mua i o koutou huarahi.

May peace be widespread.
May the sea glisten like the greenstone.
May the shimmer of light dance before your path.
