Winter Sport
Most winter sports codes have made the difficult decision not to proceed with any further competition games, due to Alert Level restrictions.
Aerobics Online
The Queens Aerobics team have jumped into their second year of online Zoom training sessions during lockdown.
In addition to their training, student coaches, Billie Allan (Year 12), Kate Williment (Year 12) and Saige Evans (Year 9) have also been coaching their primary and intermediate students once a week as part of our Queen's Aerobics Community Coaching Programme. Their sessions have been fun, engaging and beneficial for everyone involved.
Summer Sport Sign Up
An email was sent to all students this week to sign up for Term 4 sport. The form is to be completed by Tuesday 14 September. A Sports Contract will also need to be signed if a student has not played sport for school this year. Arrangements will be made for winter sports uniforms to be returned next week.
Rowing – ‘Have a Go’ Session
Dave, Queen’s High School Rowing Coach, is organising a ‘Have a Go’ Session for any student interested in rowing. This will take place on Saturday 18 September at 8.30am. Students are to meet at the North End Rowing Club, 55 Magnet Street (Boat Harbour, behind the Forsyth Barr Stadium). Dave will provide further information about ‘Rowing Life’ once girls have had an opportunity to get out on the harbour.
Handball – New Option
Queen’s High School would like to enter a Handball team in the local competition next term. We hope to arrange a ‘Have a Go Session’ before the end of Term 3. There is a novice grade for this sport, which is on the rise.
Equestrian
There are a couple of upcoming Pony Club events. If you are interested in competing, please contact Ms Stumbles.
Otago Daily Times Article
Keep an eye out for the Queen’s High School article in next week’s Otago Daily Times. Ms Stumbles interviewed Elise Carline and Kaila Geeves, Co-captains of the 10A Netball Team about their experience at the South Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament held in Christchurch in July. The students provided a great overview of ‘Tournament Life’.
Lockdown Challenge
Congratulations to Melody Buckby who competed in all five challenges in the Otago Secondary Schools Sports Association Lockdown Challenge. She was lucky enough to win a spot prize.
