On the 23rd May, I was part of a group of Queen’s girls given the opportunity to attend Launch. Launch is an amazing programme aimed at getting more women into the IT industry and giving women a taste of what the IT industry is about.

Throughout the day we were given a list of problems in the world, we had to pick one and then in a group make a solution with the apps we were given. Through the apps we could either make a game or an app to go on a phone. My group’s problem was the pollution in our waters. In response to this problem we created an app where people can pick up rubbish from the water and dispose of it to gain points and rewards from the app. We heard many different people speak to us about the programme and how important it is to get more women into the IT industry. 

This was an amazing experience and I am grateful for the opportunity I was given.  I recommend that if you’re looking into studying or would like to work in the IT industry, give this programme a try.
