Congratulations to Leah Faitonu, Jaiyushka Pratap, Miliame Tudreu and Lani Luafitu (pictured above with all Scholarship winners) who were awarded a TOA Scholarship from Pacific Trust Otago. TOA in the Pacific Island context means champion, leader, warrior, winner and to be brave. The aim of the scholarship is to encourage Pacific secondary students to excel and achieve. It recognises not only each students achievement and involvement in school but also their service within the community.

Thank you to everyone who made our Open Night such a success. The students and staff worked extremely hard to ensure the evening showcased our entire school for the large number of students and whānau who attended. The feedback I received was very positive with visitors commenting on the real warmth and the genuine relationships between students and staff here at Queen’s. Specific mention was also made about the guide they had; that they knew everyone’s name, they could answer the questions and that they engaged with the girls who are looking at attending Queen’s.

Enrolments are now being accepted for 2023 at all levels. If you know of any whānau who was unable to attend on Open Night, and they would like to look around our school, please ask them to contact the school office to book a visit.

The Queen’s High School Formal was held last Saturday night at the Tūhura Otago Museum and was a fantastic success. The dining area was beautifully decorated and a lovely dinner was enjoyed by all, in between many photos and lots of dancing. Thank you and well done to Ms Ashton and the Formal Committee for making this such a memorable and fun occasion.

Positions on the Queen’s High School Board are currently up for election. If you are interested in being on our Board or would like more information about what this involves, please email or call me. Nominations close on Wednesday 17 August and all members of our community who are eligible, have been emailed the nomination form.

The position of student representative on the Queen’s High School Board will be up for election in September and I encourage any student who is interested in this role to find out more about what this position involves and to put their name forward for nomination.

I wish Polyhymnia, the Queen’s and King’s combined choir, all the best at the Cadenza this weekend in Timaru.
