“BELIEVING in yourself is the first secret to SUCCESS”.

Volleyball

Despite volleyball teams being severely affected by Covid and students having to isolate over the season, all teams had a pleasing and successful term. The Queen’s Senior A team had a great season, finishing second overall in the premier A section. The Senior B team had a steady season and were third in the premier B division. Both the Year 10A and Year 9A teams played in the premier junior grade and were consistent throughout the term. There is vast potential amongst the young players, which sets volleyball in good stead for the future. The school’s seven social teams all played with much enthusiasm. Having Terry Brewerton and Aaron Sydney share their volleyball knowledge with the players is invaluable.

Congratulations to our students for their representative volleyball honours; Mili Tudreu and Blaise Perry (Under 19 Otago team); Stephanie Finau and Elise Carline (Under 17 Otago A team); Hannah Mather and Gabbi Uriaro (Under 17 Otago B team). Queen’s is proud of your achievement.

Futsal

It was another disrupted futsal term with different students unable to play each week, due to isolating or being unwell. This made it hard to gel as teams. Despite this, everyone had a great term and it was pleasing to see the girls getting out there and giving it their best. Ms Ellis, Manager, was proud of the teams and said there were some exciting games, with some great goals scored. Congratulations to the Junior A team, which played in the junior division 1 final against a strong Columba College team. It was a nail-biting game, with Queen’s being victorious, 2-1. Thank you to Lily Stedman, Tony Roche, and Cai Heperi (Coaches). Your time and support is much appreciated and we look forward to what the girls can achieve in Term 4.

Handball

The handball team finished third in division 2 last term, which was a great effort considering many of the teams were of mixed gender. We are privileged to have Annalise Wilson, who is a New Zealand handball representative as one of our coaches. She is assisted by Madi Sutherland, another experienced handball player.

Handball is described as fast and fun; a short game, with a combination of basketball, soccer, and ice hockey. It is a growing sport.

New players are welcome to join in Term 4.

Tennis

Tennis was lots of fun this term. The coaches did a range of different activities to build the players skills using the racket and moving around the court.

By the end of the term, students were much more confident and their skills had improved a great deal returning forehand and backhand shots, and serving.

It was a shame to finish the term, as girls had really built momentum and were enjoying the sessions. We look forward to picking it up again in summer term.

Cheers to Coaches; Ange, Gav, and Bryce for working with girls.

Winter Sports

Trials for all winter sports have been completed. The premier basketball competition gets underway this week and the majority of other sports commence next week. We look forward to seeing all our teams in action on the courts and fields.
