Girl Boss

Maisy Costa —

About a month ago, I applied for a GirlBoss NZ programme. Even though I didn't get into my first choice of Health and Technology I decided to try and apply again for my second choice which was Law. I got accepted which was so great as it has been one of the best experiences I have had.

The programme I did was focused on the fields of Law & Policy and it also came with a scholarship. It started in the first week of the holidays and went for 10 days.

This GirlBoss NZ course was a 10 day programme, and was packed with amazing things. It included live Facebook videos from leaders of New Zealand (including a message from Jacinda Adern), training in interview skills, challenges and the chance to have  Face Time meetings with other girls in the programme. And there were prizes!

I learnt how to create a professional CV and form a LinkedIn account which will allow me to connect with professionals in my area of interest. I also learnt how to write a report, which was then sent to the Ministry of Education on the last day.

The commitment to the activities over the 10 days was for about an hour each day, and it was definitely worth it. After this programme I feel empowered, confident and really blessed to have met the GirlBoss NZ team and other incredible girls who took the course. My favourite part of the programme was meeting all of the other girls on the programme from around New Zealand (there were around 600 of us) and the Facebook Live sessions.

The programme is designed to enable young women to fulfil their potential in a career that excites them. I have never done a programme like this before in my life, but after this one I want to do more! It has equipped me with so many different skills such as presenting, interviewing, talking, leading and I would definitely recommend that if you see ‘GirlBoss NZ’ pop up in your emails or on Classroom - apply now!! I was very grateful to have achieved this course completely free, and it was the opportunity of a lifetime.
