Year 11 student Mereana Martin competed in the 51st Annual White Island Race.

This race involved people swimming, paddling or canoeing from St Clair beach to White Island and back again. The race is approximately 5km in length and is a true test of a competitors fitness and bravery. Mereana placed 3rd in the open women’s board event. The offshore wind made getting out to the Island relatively straightforward but coming home into the wind tested the competitors resolve. The nice warm day and carnival like atmosphere on the beach made for a great day out for both competitors and spectators alike.
