PEAK Athlete Development Programme begins for 2020

Liz Koni —

The Queen's Athlete Development Programme PEAK began late last term and will run this term for 16 Year 9 - 11 students to support them in their sporting pursuits.

The programme runs each Wednesday morning from 7.30am and began with a shared breakfast and some activities to give the students a chance to get to know one another and the programme coordinators, Liv and Kate, who are completing their degrees in Sport and Management at Otago Polytechnic.  Fitness testing followed, pushing the girls to perform at their best as they completed strength, speed and agility components which were recorded for comparison with more testing scheduled for later this term.  The PEAK group will continue to work through the programme over the next ten weeks, which includes theory and practical fitness sessions, visits to outside training facilities, practical nutrition sessions and expert guest speakers.
