Kia ora koutou

This is our final newsletter for the year and it provides an opportunity to showcase the activities that the junior students have been involved in over the last few weeks.

The Year 10 students were involved in camps in Central Otago, the Mackenzie Country, Surfing or on Stewart Island. From the photos I have seen and feedback I have heard they had a great time, learning new skills, making new friends and sharing new adventures.

The Year 9 Activity Week involved a big out, a big day in, trips in and around Dunedin, and ended with a day based on Tikanga Māori at Otakou Marae where our senior students stepped up to teach the girls. The perfect tuakana- teina relationship.

These experiences allow for students to learn much about themselves, and for the relationships between us all to develop even further.

We celebrated the achievements of the Year 9 and 10 students at our Junior Prizegiving this week. It was wonderful to see so many girls gaining academic awards which are an acknowledgement of their hard work and ability.

Congratulations to the following major award winners:

Gemma Gray - Year 10 Top Scholar Award

Maia Scott - Year 9 Top Scholar Award

Lucy Hughes - Junior Visual Arts Rising Star

Jade Taani - He Honore Mō Ngā Teina Trophy for Junior Maori Leadership

Fuamalini Finau - The Pacific Island Contribution and Leadership Junior Trophy

Maia Scott - The Best All Round Junior Sportswoman

Olivia Breese - The Amy Dunbar Trophy for Year 10 Service and Contribution

This final issue is being sent to our 2023 Year 9 students. We welcome them to Queen’s and share with them some of the activities they have to look forward to, over the next few years. We formally welcome all new students and their whānau to Queen’s on Tuesday 31 January at our mihi whakatau staring at 9am. We also hope new whānau can join with us and the girls at the barbecue on Wednesday 1 February at 12.30pm.

I would like to thank you all, for your commitment to the students and their learning, and to Queen’s over 2022, and I look forward to new beginnings and continued success in 2023.

Information for the start of the 2023 school year will be sent separately before Christmas.

Meri Kirihimete me ngā mihi o te tau hou.
