Year Ten Art Visit from Bruce Mahalski

Nancy Kay —

Year 10 are working on a Mural design for outside B4 and B5. Local Dunedin artist and Mural specialist Bruce Mahalski gave a very informative talk and slide show.

He covered historic aspects from Cave Drawing, through to Graffitti Art in Europe, USA and New Zealand, and how these developments have influenced what has become a professional pursuit for many artists around the world.

Students gained insight into Bruce's love of the displays in the Animal Attic at the Museum, and also his own collection. Students were inspired to see the variety of Mural Art developing all over New Zealand, some being commissioned by locals and painted on fences of private residences. Bruce operates through a private fundraising body to accumulate funds to bring artists from all over the world to paint the wonderful street art Dunedin now has the privilege of having.
