Students’ Success

Maadi Cup

What a journey it has been for our rowers. The preparation was done and it paid dividends. Ella Edwards and Billie Askerud gained a fourth place in their Pair, B Final at Maadi Cup, resulting in them being ranked 12th in New Zealand. Ella also finished 3rd in her Under 18 Single C Final in an exciting, close finish. Meeting some of their rowing heroes, bracelet making, and manicures occupied some time off the water! Dave Hanan, Coach, cannot be thanked enough for all the time and energy he has given to the Queen's Rowing Programme.

3 Peaks Mountain Race and Football

Neve Darlington competed in a 26 kilometre endurance race in Dunedin in late March. The 3 Peaks Mountain Race makes its way through Ross Creek, up to Craigieburn, the Pineapple Track to Flagstaff Summit. The terrain has plenty of steep, muddy sections with equally difficult declines with the last summit up Mount Cargill and down into Bethune’s Gully. Some of these peaks reach as high as 700+ metres. Neve had an outstanding race and placed second in the Under 20 Age Group with a time of 3:30:27.

Neve also attended a Māori Football Camp in Auckland earlier this year, where she played in the Under 18 South Team against the Under 18 North team. The South was victorious against the North. An Under 18 Māori New Zealand Team was selected to play the Indigenous Hawaiians in Auckland in late July. We congratulate Neve on her selection into this team.

New Zealand Secondary Schools Triathlon Championship

The New Zealand Secondary Schools Triathlon Championship was held on Thursday at Glendhu Bay, Wanaka. After a frosty and cold start to the day, the sun came out, creating perfect conditions. Over 75 secondary schools from across the country had students competing, ensuring competitive fields. Eve Kelleher represented Queen’s High School in the Under 14 event, comprising a 300 metre swim, 11 kilometre bike, and a 2.5 kilometre run. Eve powered through the course, finishing third to gain herself a place on the podium. Huge congratulations, Eve.

South Island Secondary Schools Softball Tournament

Sophie Robertson, Kadince Robinson, and Ambah Robinson, had an amazing week in Christchurch recently at the South Island Secondary Schools Softball Tournament. Students from Dunedin secondary schools combined to win all six games played. Congratulations to Ambah, who was awarded Most Valuable Player of the Team. An awesome experience, made possible by Ms Stanley-Brown. Thank you to her and everyone else involved.

Summer Sports Wrap Up

It has been another successful term of Summer Sports. We had multiple teams involved in the local secondary school weekly competition, competing in Futsal, Handball, Tennis, Touch, Volleyball, and Water Polo. A special mention to the following teams: Senior A Futsal team, which won their Division 1 final and the Senior B Volleyball Team, which won the Division 2 final. Other teams made finals, only to lose by close margins.
