Tree Planting at Berwick
The Queen’s High School Enviro and Interact groups joined forces to collaborate in a native tree planting project to help restore a wetland at Berwick Lodge.
The planting will also help provide a new habitat for native insects and birds and will become part of an outdoor classroom where other students can learn about biodiversity and sustainability.
This was funded through some fundraising by Interact as well as a very generous donation from the St Kilda Sunrise Rotary Club. It is also important to acknowledge Ribbonwood Nursery who provided us with discounted trees which were of a very high quality.
The planting resulted in 150 native shrubs, tussocks and trees being planted.
A big thanks to Mrs Signal-Cambridge and her husband Owen who provided a wealth of knowledge on how to plant trees and what plants would suit particular spots. Also, thanks to Mrs Beamish and all the students who rolled their sleeves up and got stuck into the digging and planting.
There will be a second round of planting in 2022 so watch this space for the development and growth of the new Berwick Lodge wetland.
