Enviro Group Wins Top School Project Award

Matthew Sherborne —

It was an honour and a privilege for the Queen's High School Enviro Group to be presented with the 'Top School Project' award at the Keep Dunedin Beautiful awards ceremony. The award was presented by the Mayor Aaron Hawkins.

The award was given to acknowledge the work we did on our Adopt a Plant campaign. We transplanted native Kowhai seedlings from an existing spot beneath an established tree and offered them to students to take home and plant. We used the gold coin donations to fund the scheme and the judges acknowledged the sustainable aspect of the scheme.

We were also commended for our work on our plastics collections from local beaches as well as our group making beeswax wraps. It was a surprise to win the award as many other schools were involved in significant environmental projects as well.
