Gumboot Day

QHS —

Last Friday Charlotte Bathgate and some Year 13 students organised Gumboot Day to promote positive attitudinal societal change around mental health throughout New Zealand.

Many staff and Year 13 students spent the day clomping about the school in their gumboots, in support of Mental Health. Gumboot day recognises that having depression is like walking through mud. Much fun was had at lunchtime, with a number of students and staff donating gold coins to take part in the Gumboot Toss Competition. The ultimate winners of the contest were:

1st - MJ Solofa, 2nd -  Aliyah Christos, 3rd - Chloe Wood

Staff winners were Will (student teacher) who threw the entire length of the Gym and bounced gumboots off the side walls of the gym. Mr Clark came a very close second.

Will was a holder of a Gumboot Toss Championship from his own high school - so clearly Mr Clark was competing with a professional!

Ms Meronek and Ms Agnew won the prizes for the shortest and the most creative throws. Charlotte and the team have raised a pleasing amount of money with the activity, with the money going to pay for counselling for young people who cannot afford it.

If you wish to donate, please text "Boots" to 469 on your phone, to donate $3.00. #gumbootfriday
