The Hook, Line and Sing Along Songwriting Competition

Dale Irvine —

The Hook, Line and Sing Along is a national songwriting competition for anyone up to the age of 18 to try writing a song for primary school students all over the country to sing and play ukulele along to. The only requirement is that the song has to be about Aotearoa and can be easily played on ukulele with simple enough chords that primary school students will be able to easily play and sing along to. In the year 10 music class, the students all had to try writing a song to submit in a competition. Thanks to everyone that was involved in the process and a big, special congratulations to Sophia Caldwell, Maggie Caldwell, Lucy Hughes and Mihi Wesley-Evans. We are very proud of their efforts to come second in this competition with their song ‘The Albatross’.
