Sports Corner
It has been a busy period for students over the last few weeks, with trips outside of school and balancing sporting commitments with academic commitments. Thank you to students and parents for your timely communication with coaches and Teachers in Charge. Please ensure that your child is communicating in a timely manner with their coach, manager or Teacher in Charge if they are unavailable for games or training sessions.
A reminder that we have several funding avenues available for our students to access to reduce fees. Sporting Chance, Apollo Projects and Te Kīwai funding are all available to access. You can check out the Sport Funding article for more information, or contact Tessa Nicol, at sport@queens.school.nz. We strongly encourage parents and students to access this funding to reduce costs and make sports more accessible.
School Cross Country
The sun was out and so were Queen’s students dressed in their finest house colours for our school cross country afternoon! A huge ka pai to all of our students who participated in the school cross country last week. Whether you were competing against yourself and others, or you ran with your friends for fun, we are proud of all our students for giving it their all.
While it was a tight battle on points for the best performing house, ultimately it would be Dawson who came away with the win. Well done to our Dawson house members for going the extra mile to come away victorious for 2024.

Swimming
On May 19, Claudia Haig and Abby McBride competed in the Otago Secondary Schools Tournament at Moana Pool. Claudia raced phenomenally in her events, and finished with two top ten placings. Claudia also achieved personal bests in all four of her races.
Abby raced in three events and finished with two second places and a third place. While Abby did not achieve any personal bests, she was extremely close to her times and was satisfied with her placings. Congratulations to both Claudia and Abby on a successful swim meet, we are looking forward to hearing how your next meet goes.
Volleyball
All the very best to Emmerson Cooke who is representing Otago in Wellington for her first U17 Volleyball tournament this weekend. Emerson was also a key player in the Queen’s Senior A team who achieved third place at the South Island Secondary Schools Tournament in Christchurch in Term One. Emerson will be representing Otago in more upcoming tournaments, and we eagerly await to hear her results over the weekend.
