Thank you to everyone who made our Open Night such a success.
The students and staff worked extremely hard to ensure the evening showcased our entire school for the large number of students and whānau who attended. The feedback I received was extremely positive with visitors commenting on the real warmth and the genuine relationships between students and staff here at Queen’s. Specific mention was also made about the guide they had; how they knew everyone’s name, they could answer the questions and that they engaged with the young women looking at attending Queen’s.
I would also like to thank the members of the PSTA (Parent Student Teacher Association) and the Board who greeted our visitors, provided supper and answered many questions about our school. And on that note, do you need a night out? On Wednesday 30 August, the PSTA and the Ex-Girls Association are running a Bingo Night to raise funds to support a wide variety of projects across our school. The money raised form the Bingo Night will be used to support the purchase of shade sails outside A5-A8, the purchase of further devices, scholarships awarded by the ex-girls association each year and other activities as requested. Your support at the Bingo Night, or by a donation for the hampers that will be raffled on the night, would be much appreciated. You, or your child, can bring any donations for the hampers to the student office.
Enrolments are now being accepted for 2024 at all levels. If you know of any family who was unable to attend on Open Night, and they would like to look around our school, please ask them to contact the school office to book a visit.
The Formal for Year 12 and Year 13 students, held last weekend, was a fantastic success. The dining area was beautifully decorated and a yummy dinner was enjoyed by all, in between many photos and lots of dancing. Thank you and well done to the Formal Committee and Ms Steph Ashton for making the evening such a memorable and fun occasion. Photos to follow.
The position of student representative on the Queen’s High School Board will be up for election in September and I encourage any student who is interested in this role to find out more about what this position involves and to put their name forward for nomination. Our current student representative on the board, Talullah Costa, is happy to chat with any students who may be interested in this position.
Over the next two weeks many Queen’s students are competing in a variety of events: Polyhymnia, the Queen’s and King’s combined choir perform at the South Island Cadenza in Timaru, our Hip Hop Crews and the Aerobics Team compete at Otago Competitions, with both these events being qualifying events for the National Competition, and Faaiu Fetoai (Year 11) is representing Queen's High School at the National Samoan Speech Competition in Christchurch. I wish them all the best.
