Last month I attended an Outward Bound course in the Queen Charlotte Sounds.

Well what a day. After a year's break it was great to get back out in the fresh air and run/walk the annual school cross country.

Our Queen's High School Cross Country team had their first race of the season this week.

Last term the rec students were engaged in many different activities in their community. Whilst focussing on planning to be safe, they enjoyed participating in snorkeling, surfing, bodyboarding and walking. A small group of students linked with Dive Otago and completed an entry level snorkelling assessment at Wellers Rock.

The Year 12 ECE class was lucky enough to have a very special visitor Monty and his mum. This gave the class the opportunity to look at child development during the first 6 months. Monty was very well behaved and we all enjoyed his visit.

Five Year 12 students, Billie Allan, Caitlyn Petrie, Anahera Weepers, Jaiyushka Pratap and Cai Heperi-Smart took up the opportunity to attend a leadership course run by the Otago University.

Last Thursday, the Year 10's piled into two buses and went to the Town Hall to hear about different career options.

After hinting to Mrs Signal-Cambridge about my interest in pursuing a career in the construction industry, she helped me make connections with people in that field.

Last Thursday a group of curious students attended another one of the ‘people like us’ workshops at the Otago Museum.

Queen's has purchased 6 C-Pen Reader Pens. These pens are useful for a range of students who require a little extra assistance to access the curriculum.

With Winter fast approaching it is timely to remind students and their families of the procedures around winter conditions
